Maintaining good hygiene and taking care of your genitals (private parts) reduces the risks of developing problems like skin irritations and some common infections. Hence, it's important to know:

How to maintain the female genitals clean and healthy?

Discharge is normal. The vagina is a self-cleaning machine. It cleans itself out through natural secretions which may be clear or white and have no stench. This could differ depending on whether you are or aren’t on birth control. Discharge is healthy and it means the vagina is functioning right. However, keep an eye on it because unusual colors or consistencies can signal a problem.

The vulva or the external parts of your genitals isn’t self-cleaning. Thus, it is important to maintain good perineal hygiene by gently washing that area every day, with water and plain soap.

Odor is normal.
Note that vaginal odor can change at different times of the menstrual cycle. You don’t need to use scented wipes or vaginal deodorants because it is normal for the vagina to have such scent and douching would only disrupt the vagina's healthy natural pH balance of 3.8 to 4.5, causing irritation or infections. In any case it becomes too strong or smells off, you may need to seek medical attention.
Your vagina should stay clean and dry. Certain types of fabrics and tight-fitting clothing create warm, moist conditions in which yeast thrive. Instead, wear loose cotton underwear and avoid thongs. Change out of wet swimsuits and sweaty workout clothes as quickly as possible, especially if you are prone to yeast infections.

Your pubic hair, your choice. Any decision about pubic hair should be your decision alone. Not your partner’s or anyone else’s. However, if you wish to remove the hair, clipping, trimming, laser-removal, or waxing are much recommended than shaving because it can lead to folliculitis, an infection of the hair follicles that looks like pimples. Moreover, razors can harbor tons of bacteria.

After a bowel movement, wipe from front to back to avoid bacterial contamination of the vagina and to lower the risk of bladder infection.

Choose the right feminine products. Always choose sanitary products with an absorbency level that’s appropriate for your menstrual flow. Remember to change pads and tampons regularly (at least every 4-8 hours) during your period, even if you have a light flow.
